Charges filed in bizarre Portage Co. fraud investigation case

Portage County authorities brought in excavators to help them search for clues in a bizarre fraud investigation case in Portage County.

Investigators say Marie Jost and her son Theodore have been missing since 1982. Earlier this month, authorities searched Marie's backyard because officials believe she could be buried there.

Marie's son, Charles, and Delores and Ronald Disher are accused of cashing Marie's social security checks for 30 years and keeping the money for themselves.

Crews have been using the excavators to dig through the yard because the ground at the Amherst Junction home is very rocky and there are lots of trees.

Different sets of dogs have been on the property from the beginning of this investigation. One of the dog handlers is confident there are remains there but officers say nothing has been found yet.

Police are still investigating at the site. They say there is no timetable for the search.

The three are scheduled make an initial appearance in court at 1:30 p.m. on Monday.
