Kristen Rodgers' Husband: Some days I wake up missing my wife.

LA CROSSE, WISCONSIN (WXOW)-- Monday, Kristen Rodgers' husband, Dwayne, took the stand.

After his testimony he spoke with News 19 about his wife, her death and how they both struggled with drug addictions.

"It's a daily fight, you know what I'm saying," Rodgers said. "Some days I wake up feeling good, some days I wake up missing my wife."

Kristen Rodgers was found dead in an alley on the northside March 6. According to police she was strangled. Izelia Golatt is on trial in connection with Kristen's death.

Dwayne testified for the prosecution. On the stand, Dwayne acknowledged Kristen struggled with a drug addiction and was headed out to buy crack cocaine the day she died.

"My wife had a good heart. She cared about people. She wanted to do the right things," Rodgers said. "It's sad that she had an addiction. But overall, she was a good person."

Dwayne admits he also drank and used drugs, but since Kristen's death he's tried to stay clean in her memory.

"A person told me, basically, to honor her death, I had to do something," Rodgers said. "And the only thing I could think to do, was to stop using. I have abstained from using drugs and even alcohol. Maybe she didn't overcome it, but I did."

And while he'll be relieved when the trial is over, Dwayne says he isn't sure he'll be able to move on, no matter what verdict the jury reaches.

"It's not over. It's just a trial," Rodgers said. "I gotta live the rest of my life without my wife. This is just a five day trial. Five days isn't going to give me closure over a lifetime."
