SPARTA, Wisconsin (WXOW) – UPDATE: More details Tuesday regarding the case of a female body found inside a burning vehicle in Monroe County a week ago.
Lt. Robert Conroy with the Monroe County Sheriff's Department said "the body was found in the rear of the car".
Officials are treating this incident as a homicide, which Lt. Conroy said is standard practice in these types of situations.
The car was found by a passerby near a radio tower in the Town of Ridgeville north of Norwalk on September 18th.
Officials have determined that the burnt car is a 1998 2-door Pontiac Grand Prix with Minnesota License Plates.
Authorities say the deceased woman in the car was not the registered owner.
The woman's body is at the state crime lab for testing to determine identity and the exact cause of death.
Lt. Conroy says it could be a week or more until those results are released.
At this time, Lt. Conroy says the public does not appear to be at risk.
