LAKE CITY, Minnesota (WXOW) -- Tuesday, residents in Lake City honored officer Shawn Schneider by presenting his wife Brittany and three children a plaque from the Military Order of the Purple Heart.
Schneider died nine months ago while responding to a domestic dispute.
Minnesota Commissioner of Public Safety, Mona Dohman, also read a proclamation from Governor Mark Dayton.
"As a law enforcement officer and former police chief, I know that the people in this room are proud of the man they loved, the man they served beside, the one who wore that uniform as an outward indication of what lay deep within Shawn Schneider," Dohman said.
"He's a hero," said Schneider's sister Monica. "He's Minnesota's hero and we are just so proud of him."
