LA CROSSE, Wisconsin (WXOW) - The city of La Crosse has a new police chief.
Ron Tischer took the oath of office today.
City Clerk Teri Lehrke administered the oath this morning in front of Tischer's family, friends and colleagues.
Tischer's wife pinned on his badge.
Tischer said he's most excited to get to know his force and serve the city.
"It feels great," he said. "It's quite an honor to be here in La Crosse as the new police chief. I certainly have a lot of great chiefs that have preceded me, so hopefully I can live up to the expectations of the members of the police department and the community."
Tischer is the department's 17th chief.
He began working this afternoon.
"I felt a little naked for the last day when I took off my last badge -- from now until then. So, I feel back at home now with the badge on my chest and ready to get to work," Tischer said.
Tischer said he'll be on the streets this weekend, working to ensure everyone has a fun and safe Oktoberfest weekend.
