La Crosse, WISCONSIN (WXOW) UW-La Crosse's running back depth will be put to the test the rest of the season with the loss of Ben Hertrampf.
The teams leading rusher last year and a first team all-conference performer injured his knee last Saturday at Stevens Point and will require season-ending surgery.
That means more time for Jared Stan and back up Dillon Bean.
Stan was already carrying a heavy load in the running game.
He scored the game-winning touchdown against Stevens Point.
So the cupboard isn't bare for the Eagles.
"Obviously, we're going to miss him as a player and a leader. He runs the ball hard but it really doesn't change our scheme too much. We're pretty confident in jared Stan. We consider him a starter too. He can run the same plays. He's got a different style. Dillon Bean from Westby is going to get some chances this week. He's a similar runner to Ben," said head coach Joel Dettwiler.
The Eagles will host UW-Platteville in La Crosse's home opener this Saturday at 1pm.
