TOWN OF CAMPBELL, WI (WXOW)—Since 1946 the Town of Campbell Fire Department has been serving the community.
Sunday, the department honored the 53 firefighters who have died with a memorial service.
Chief Nate Melby said it's important to remember their fellow firefighters time and courage.
Those 53 firefighters, together, gave 500 years of service to the community.
"In the fire service, I think there is a special bond between fire fighters and the same sacrifice that we've made through the years ourselves have been the same sacrifices that those who came before us have given," Chief Melby said.
He said for volunteer firefighters, it can be hard balancing a career, family life and giving their free time out of a sense of duty.
