LA CROSSE, WISCONSIN (WXOW)-- The Salvation Army is helping families get ready for winter with a clothing drive. From now until November 9, The Salvation Army and Kwik Trip are asking for donations of gently used coats, boots, snow pants and other winter items.
You can drop the items off at The Salvation Army and Kwik Trip locations. The items will be distributed beginning November 5.
"Coats are a very expensive item," said Julie Nelson, of The Salvation Army. "Already kids in the shelter are coming home with notes from the teacher saying, ‘It's cold on the playground, be sure to send your kids with some warmer winter wear.' And they just don't have it. They've had to downsize, they're down to nothing. Parents aren't working yet, so to be able to afford a coat is almost impossible for them."
The Salvation Army is also looking for a large space that can be used to assemble the holiday food baskets and other winter drives. If you have a space available contact them at 608-782-6126.
