La Crosse, Wisconsin (WXOW) ----- The Children's Miracle Network cards are rolling off the assembly line for the 26th year. Each year a holiday card is created from the artwork of a child who benefits from CMNH services.
This year's winner is Kayla Koecher, a 13 year old from New Lisbon, Wisconsin. "Me, my brother, our pets and my mom and dad that's just kind of what I always remember us decorating the tree together." It's that memory and that image that won Kayla the honor of designing this years holiday card. And to think she almost didn't do it. "I got sick, I was sad but then I picked up the crayon and started drawing." And now she and her family are touring the place that is printing her card.
Her mother said Kayla has had a rough year but this makes things better. "I think she just did a wonderful job on it. It's very detailed. I'm just really proud of her."
The owner of Empire Screen Printing has printed the cards for free for the past 26 years. His employees have donated their time and talents. Being able to vote for the winner has also made the experience more personal said Kathy Cuellar who works there. "You go back and forth and everyone has their own opinion and then when yours wins you really feel happen for child and even for yourself for picking that winner.
All involved agree that they don't always see eye to eye on but they insist they always agree on one thing. And that the money raised from the sale of the card definitely goes to a good cause.
Another part of the card design was the envelope seals. You can purchase cards online at gundluth.org .....or call 608-775-4424. You can also purchase cards at the following locations: Degen Berglund, Gundersen Lutheran gift shop and La Crosse Children's Musuem.
