The Grand Rapids Police Chief says a trucking company has been cited after a cranberry spill last week.

The Chief says Plainfield Trucking was fined for spilling the berries on Highway 54.

Clean-up took several hours and both lanes of the highway had to be blocked for some time.

Authorities say the truck had turned onto 54 from Eagle Road when the truck split open.

They say an initial investigation showed the truck was most likely not overloaded, but the trailer may have been faulty.

They believe the cranberries were harvested from a marsh in Biron.

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation reports that a cranberry truck spilled it's load in Wood County.

Officials say it happened around 8:30 a.m. Thursday on WIS 54 near Wisconsin Rapids.

Both lanes were closed around 10:00 a.m. for clean up. The DOT estimates clean up will take about an hour to sweep up the spill.
