Wausau area shooting suspect in custody after chase

The suspect in a shooting in the Village of Weston has been arrested, according to Everest Metro Police.

Police were called to the 5100 block of Aspen Street just after 8:00 p.m. Saturday. Police told Newsline 9 a man shot and killed Lee Xiong, 20, of Weston.

Police say a 21-year-old Asian man from Minnesota was arrested overnight in a wooded area in Clark County. They say the man was driving a black Ford truck in Marathon County near Abbotsford when he was spotted by police. Officers tried to pull the truck over.

Police said the situation turned into a chase, ending in a wooded area on Pine Road near Meadow Drive in Clark County.

We're told by police that both Marathon County and Clark County officers, along with K-9 units and SWAT Team members searched the area near the vehicle.

Police said the suspect was arrested shortly after.

Everest Metro Police tell Newsline 9 the black Ford truck driven by the suspect had Minnesota license plates and was stolen from a Wausau dealership in September.

According to officials, they also found two handguns near the truck.

The suspect is currently being held at Marathon County Jail. Police said he admitted to at least some involvement in Saturday night's shooting.

Police tell Newsline 9 they are still investigating the case, but they do consider it to be a homicide.

The name of the man has not been released. Everest Metro Police plan to do that Monday at a news conference at 10:00 a.m.
