Holmen High School students work to make a child's dream reality

HOLMEN, WI (WXOW)—Students at Holmen High School are working hard to make a young Milwaukee girl's dream come true, to meet her idol, Justin Bieber.

It's part of a lesson in Mr. Travis Kowalski's genocide class at Holmen High School; turn something small into something big.

When a friend told Mr. Kowalski four-year-old Hailey Charlotte Roser had a brain tumor, his class knew they had to help.

Their goal is to get Justin Bieber to meet Hailey when he is in Milwaukee on Sunday for a concert.

In just a day, the video they spent three making has gone viral.

"We usually get excited when we have ten or so re-tweets from out friends," Alex Carlson, Holmen High School Senior said. "And then we're figuring out people who have millions of followers are re-tweeting us it's kind of like oh my gosh this is huge."

"It's crazy how things can be brought up and all of a sudden it's everywhere," Zeik Hellerude, Holmen High School Senior said.

All of these tweets, it's just the kind of lesson they're learning about in class.

"Genocide can start with something so small," Emily Mihalovic, Holmen High School Senior said. "A small act of harshness, and bullying, but it can turn into this huge mass genocide. This is the positive side of it."

Besides the viral video, students decided late last night to wear purple for the big debut and spread the message on twitter; yet another example of how quickly a message can spread.

"It's Justin Bieber's favorite color and of course anything that Justin Bieber likes Hailey will like," Hellerude said.

They're doing all of this for a girl they never met.

"None of us have," Mihalovic said. "Mr. Kowalski hasn't met her. But we have all been really inspired by her story."

"A four year old loves Justin Bieber and you just want to see her smile. She's going though such a hard time right now. Just anything to make her happy."

"Justin, I would really like you to come see me. I love you!" Hailey said.

Holmen students want everyone to wear purple again on Friday to support Hailey.
