Main Street Ramp under reconstruction

Posted:

LA CROSSE, Wisconsin (WXOW) - The Main Street Parking Ramp is under construction and city officials said people who park there will be inconvenienced.

Parking Utility started the $425,000 project a week ago. Contractors will repair the concrete and reinforce the parking structure.

The city said drivers who rent space in the ramp will be displaced, twice. They will be offered temporary parking and get a month of parking paid for by the city.

Of the 395 parking spaces in the ramp, more than half are rented.

"This ramp was built in 1984 so the concrete is 30 some-odd years old and it needs repair," said Dale Hexom, La Crosse Director of public works. "It ages, it tends to start cracking and breaking up, so that's really what they're doing. Similar to a street, they're repairing the cracks, they're repairing the breakage."

Hexom said they're hoping to get a lot of concrete work done this fall.

The project will be completed by July 2013.
