Raking for the Community

Posted:

LA CROSSE, Wisconsin (WXOW) - Students at Logan Middle School got a chance to give back to their community Wednesday by raking leaves in the surrounding neighborhoods. A tradition that started 8 years ago with only one class and 23 lawns has grown into a school-wide effort with 7th and 8th graders tackling the 75 lawns on the list this year. The goal is to teach the children responsibility, a good work ethic, and how to give back to the community.

We spoke with 8th grade teacher Joyce mcCarthy who said this is chance for students to do something simply for the sake of being kind...

Joyce McCarthy, an 8th grade teacher at Logan Middle School said, "We have a number of people who have called wanting to have their lawns raked. And, even now as we are raking, we've had a couple of people come out and ask do you have time to rake mine. And if we can we will."

The kids have been taking short shifts working on the lawns since Monday and Wednesday they completed their list.
