LA CROSSE, Wisconsin (WXOW) - Officer Dave Pehl stood in the middle of the UW-La Crosse campus today selling doughnuts and coffee to students. And instead of his usual uniform, he was decked out in pink head to toe.

The fundraiser is part of a statewide initiative called "Justice for a Cure" that joins law enforcement and government agencies in the fight against breast cancer.

"This is our first year of really getting involved with it," said Officer Pehl. "So next year I plan on having more booths. And it's more about getting information out there for early detection. You know, early detection is the key. And just awareness."

The money raised will go to breast cancer research, treatment, and early detection around the state.

"I have ten relatives that have been affected in one way or another by breast cancer," said Officer Pehl. "But another main reason I'm doing this is for my eight year old daughter. So that one day she can say "I don't have to worry about breast cancer," or "it was one of the diseases that used to be".

Doughnut and coffee sales were very successful today raising nearly $400. That brings the University Police department total to over $1000 for the foundation this month.
