Congressman Ron Kind Reflects on Afghanistan Trip

Posted:

LA CROSSE, Wisconsin (WXOW) – Congressman Ron Kind is sharing his thoughts about a recent trip to Afghanistan.

Kind says he would like to the U.S. speed up the time table for removing its troops from Afghanistan, as he says both the U.S. and Afghan Governments have expressed their opinions that Afghan security forces are ready to take on a leading role there.

The Congressman also says the U.S. Government is working with Afghan President Hamid Karzai about the schedule and preparations for the country's elections in 2014.

"We're trying to get the Afghan Government to allow outside, election observer teams in there," Kind says. "We want free and fair Afghan national elections. It's crucial whatever government comes into power there is viewed as credibly by the Afghan people."
