Additional Monitoring of High Risk Sex Offenders on Halloween

Posted:

MADISON, Wisconsin (WXOW) - This Halloween the Wisconsin Department of Corrections will again be working with local law enforcement agencies across the state to closely monitor sex offenders on probation or parole.

Operations are planned throughout the state where teams of DOC Probation and Parole Agents and local law enforcement officers will join forces during local Halloween Trick-or-Treat activities and conduct random home visits of high risk sex offenders. Any sex offenders in violation of the "Halloween Restrictions" will be placed into custody.

"For Trick-or-Treating, children should never go alone and always be accompanied by a parent or trusted adult." Grace Roberts, Director of Sex Offender Programs for Wisconsin DOC adds.  "Children should be taught to never enter homes of other people without their parents' permission. Lastly, for Trick-or-Treating, parents should know the neighborhood before going out."

Parents can get to know the neighborhood by going to the Wisconsin Sex Offender Registry web site at http://offender.doc.state.wi.us/public/ and conducting a zip code search.

If the public sees any possible violations, they can call in the tip at 1-877-234-0085. As always, the DOC recommends that the public contact their local law enforcement if the situation is an emergency.
