LA CRESCENT, Minnesota (WXOW) We had quite a visit at the television station Thursday morning. A man named Brad Schwagel stopped by with Marine Staff Sergeant Peter Castro. The two made the trip to say thank you to News 19's Amy DuPont.
You may recall that Amy and photographer Nick Bjerke traveled to Hawaii with Pearl Harbor survivors and later put together a series on the trip. But one of those survivors, Mark Schaitel, passed away before the group arrived in Hawaii.
Before leaving Hawaii, Amy received a flag to present to mister Schaitel's family. Brad Schwagel, who's a Navy veteran, watched all of this from home. He was so touched by the way Amy handled the flag and then gave it to the family, that he wanted to say thank you.
Brad called Congressman Kind's office and made a request to have a flag flown over the Capitol in Amy's honor. Thursday he and Staff Sergeant Castro presented that flag to Amy who was quite taken by the gesture. It was something Brad worked on for two months just to say thank you.
