Kind easily outraises GOP challenger

LA CROSSE, Wisconsin (WXOW) - Democratic U.S. Rep. Ron Kind is easily outpacing his Republican challenger in fundraising, by a factor of nearly 18.

Kind, from La Crosse, has represented the 3rd District since 1996. The district covers the southwestern corner of the state.

According to a finance reports filed this week, Kind raised $31,000 in the first 17 days of October. That gave him $1.9 million for the entire election cycle, and he has nearly $580,000 cash on hand.

His challenger is Ray Boland, a retired U.S. Army colonel who served as installation commander of Fort McCoy. Boland's campaign says he raised a total of about $108,000 since mid-November of last year. He has about $17,000 in the bank.

Republicans currently hold 5 of Wisconsin's eight congressional seats. In all seven races where an incumbent is running, the incumbent has the cash advantage.
