Stave's injury means QB competition for Badgers

Posted:

MADISON, Wisconsin (WXOW) - The injury bug bit the Wisconsin Badgers hard this past weekend.

First the basketball team lost Josh Gasser to a season ending injury before their season even started. Then, quarterback Joel Stave went down in the 16-13 loss to Michigan state with a broken collarbone.

Stave suffered the injury on a play in the 3rd quarter. Head coach Bret Bielema said Stave will need eight weeks to heal but won't need surgery. The red-shirt freshman's family added that doctors advise not rushing back for any bowl game the team might make.

That leaves either the struggling Danny O'Brien or third-string Curt Phillips to fight it out for the starting job.

Bielema said, "We'll take this... bye week right here and pretty much give [O'Brien] and Curt equal reps and see where we are going into Sunday."

The Badgers have some time to figure it out before heading to Indiana on November 10th.
