LA CROSSE, Wisconsin (WXOW) The UW-La Crosse will host a number of special events to honor veterans during Freedom Week November 5 through 11.
Events include an art exhibit honoring vets at Murphy Library, a Marine Corps Ball hosted by Logistics Health, a 24-hour run-walk at Veterans' Memorial Sports Complex and a vet's breakfast November 11th.
On November 10, the University is inviting you to "Pack the Vet for the Vets." All veterans and a guest can attend the game between the UW-La Crosse and the UW-Whitewater free of charge, thanks to Don and Roxanne Weber.
Before the game, the University will honor Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau graduate and Marine Corporal Gauge Griffin. Griffin lost part of a leg when he stepped on an IED.
At halftime, they'll honor Army Lieutenant and UW-L graduate Jason Church. Church lost part of both legs when an IED exploded while he was on patrol. He will receive his Purple Heart during a ceremony.
Events are sponsored by Logistics Health, the UW-L Foundation, the UW-L Athletics Department and Freedom Honor Flight.
