SPARTA, Wisconsin (WXOW) - A group of students at Meadowview Middle School are studying the American flag. Part of that study includes cleaning every flag in the building. It all started when Ms. Fuhrmann changed rooms and took her flag with her. She noticed years of dust on the flag that once flew over Washington for her son, Navy Lieutenant Daniel Fuhrmann, who is returning from his last tour of duty this Sunday, November 4th. Ms. Fuhrmann saw that as an opportunity to teach her students the meaning of and respect for the flag.
Ms. Fuhrman said, "We've mapped out the building and we've marked off each room one by one as we've washed the flags."
Ms. Fuhrmann's 6th grade math class determined that they have cleaned 56 flags so far. Their goal is to finish the last five by next Friday for the school's Veteran's Day assembly.
