Eagles soar past River Falls

RIVER FALLS, Wisconsin (WXOW) - UW-La Crosse football's season hasn't exactly gone as planned. The Eagles looked to pick up their fourth win Saturday against UW-River Falls.

UWL certainly started hot. The Eagles scored in the first quarter on a short touchdown toss from Andy Sires to Jeff Haffeman. Then they capitalized with a field goal after a bad snap on a Falcons punt gave the Eagles a prime perch. Sires connected again with Haffeman in the second to make it a 17-0 lead.

The Eagles led 24-3 in the third when UWRF found the end zone. Phillip Martola hit Jake Ryan on a seven yard touchdown throw, cutting the deficit down to 14.

UWL's offense just proved too strong, however. Sires found Tony Favre for six on a fourth down TD conversion to make it a three touchdown lead once again. Sires threw for four scores on the day as UWL rolled to a 38-17 win.

The Eagles improve to 4-5 on the year. They'll return home to wrap up the regular season next Saturday against UW-Whitewater.
