Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani says the destruction on the east coast is hard to take.
Before stopping in Wausau as part of the Romney/Ryan "Get out the Vote" campaign tour, he visited Staten Island.
"People in New York are suffering. A lot of them are. Thousands and thousands are out of their homes. More than thousands can't get gasoline, they can't get food," he said.
Giuliani said while Sandy's destruction may not be as big in scope as that of Hurricane Katrina, recovery efforts will be key in helping people on the east coast get back on their feet.
