Eau Claire County (WQOW) - Officials now say it was a child who died in a crash Tuesday morning on Highway 93.
The Eau Claire County Sheriff's Department has not yet released the name of the 9-year old victim. The child, from the Eau Claire area, was in a car with three other people.
Deputies say their car was hit by an oncoming car that lost control and crossed the center line. They say slushy roads may have been a factor.
An investigation is still underway. The crash happened shortly after 7 a.m. Tuesday.
Eau Claire (WQOW) - One person is dead following an early morning accident on highway 93.
Two cars collided just after 7 a.m. south of Spruce Road in the town of Pleasant Valley. Five people were taken to area hospitals. This afternoon, we learned one person has died. Officials say the weather may have contributed to the crash.
"That's to be determined. The Wisconsin State Patrol along with the Eau Claire County Sheriff's office is doing an accident reconstruction at the scene. We'll be able to provide those details when we know them as fact," said Eau Claire County Sheriff's Department Captain Dan Bresina.
A section of Highway 93 was blocked off for 3 hours today following the accident.
Eau Claire County (Press Release) - On Tuesday November 6, 2012, at about 7:15 a.m., Eau Claire County Sheriff's deputies, Township Fire and Eau Claire Fire and Rescue were called to the scene of a two-vehicle crash on HWY 93, .5 mile south of Spruce Road in the Town of Pleasant Valley.
A lone male occupant of a northbound vehicle was taken to an area hospital for injuries he sustained from the crash.
Four people in the southbound vehicle were transported to an area hospital with injuries sustained from the crash. An occupant of this vehicle later died at an area hospital from injuries sustained from the crash.
The traffic crash is under investigation by the Sheriff's Office and Wisconsin State Patrol. Few details are available for release at this time including names of the drivers and occupants of the vehicles.
