ONALASKA, Wisconsin (WXOW)— An Onalaska humane officer received a statewide award Thursday.
Amiie Gabrilska, who has 34 years of service with the humane society and animal control, received the first-ever Humane Officer of the Year award.
The honor was handed out by the Secretary of the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection. Gabrilska was nominated by her peers and then selected from all nominees by a state panel.
"I'm absolutely honored to have this award," Gabrilska said. "I feel it is something that doesn't just come to me but comes to our entire organization and the animal control department here."
Gabrilska currently serves as the humane officer for all of La Crosse County.
