HOLMEN, Wisconsin (WXOW) - Students at Sand Lake Elementary in Holmen got a lesson in healthy living Wednesday from Gundersen Lutheran's Chef Thomas as part of the Farms 2 Schools program.
Chef Thomas taught the students a few new recipes with locally grown produce. The recipes included the fruit of the month, cranberries. With the help of two students who participated in Chef Thomas' Bean Challenge last year, the three prepared cranberry granola, cranberry salad dressing, and a cran-apple blueberry bake.
Chef Thomas Sacksteder said, "Well, its really important for the students to learn about not only the produce that's locally grown, but the health benefits and how to cook and prepare it."
Chef Thomas also sent recipe cards home with all of the students, so they could make these dishes at home and educate their families.
