LA CROSSE, Wisconsin (WXOW)—The La Crosse Loggers announced their 10th Annual Winter Baseball Barbecue on Thursday.
The barbecue will be Thursday, December 6 at 7:05 p.m., doors will open at 6:00 p.m.
Chris Goodell, Loggers General Manager said its a way to keep everybody thinking about baseball in the midst of winter.
"We do not function or operate out there if we don't have fans in the stands," Goodell said. "And great business sponsors and supporters to help make us go and so this is another great way for us to give back to the community."
Loggers fans will have a chance to meet Jason Nell, the new field manager, and Tony Mueller, former Logger and current Atlanta Braves farmhand.
Former Loggers player Jordan Pacheco, now an infielder for the Colorado Rockies, will be the guest speaker.
Pacheco is coming off of a banner year in which he ranked fifth in the National League in hitting and 15th overall in Major League Baseball with a .309 batting average. The 26-year old utility man was the leading hitter for the Rockies in 2012 and played third base, first base and saw time behind the plate.
"He played right her back in 2005 as an 18 year old freshman," Goodell said. "Now he's on the big league level. Very nice enough to come back and give back to the community and meet with these folks and its a great opportunity for us to hear about his career and what he's up to."
UW-La Crosse Baseball coaches and players will also be on hand to talk about the 2013 season and defending their WIAC title.
Tickets for the 10th Annual Winter Barbecue go on sale Friday at the logger ticket office, 1225 Caledonia Street, in La Crosse or call 608-796-9553.
Admission includes a ball park style meal of hot dogs and brats. Corporate tables are available.
