La Crosse, WISCONSIN (WXOW) UW-La Crosse is setting the stage for what they hope will be a huge season finale.
They host UW-Whitewater on Saturday.
The Warhawks have 3 losses this season, so they're not the same team that's won several national titles in recent years.
But they're still a formidable foe.
The Eagles will need their defense to continue to put pressure on the quarterback.
The Eagles have 24 sacks in 9 games so far, 3rd best in the conference.
That's a big improvement from a team that had 17 for the entire season last year.
"Our motor on the d-line is great. We have a lot of returners coming back next year. Just that mentality on the d-line to get that motor going to get to the quarterback. Whatever it takes. That's what we're looking forward to on Saturday," said Nick Berg, who leads UW-L with 5 sacks.
We learned in the Eau Claire game we need to pressure people. That's something we've transitioned to quite a bit. You have to be willing to take some risks. There's risks with coverage on the back end. But on the front end if you can blitz, play fast and tackle then you can get to the quarterback and cause some problems," said head coach Joel Dettwiler.
The Eagles haven't beaten Whitewater since 2004.
Kickoff at Harring Stadium set for 1pm.
