LA CROSSE, Wisconsin (WXOW)—Now that voters have approved the referendum to build a new north side elementary school, students at Franklin and Roosevelt schools gathered to thank the community for its vote.
The students sang songs and performed skits for the district officials and Mayor Matt Harter during the thank you program.
Students also honored the group called, Yes Northside Elementary School for their hard work.
Kelly Mayer, group chair, said support for the new school shows new growth for the community.
"It's amazing," Mayer said. "This is what we have looked forward to this is what we have fought for this is what we educated people for and now we get to celebrate with all of our friends and family and community members.
The next step for the district to take in building a new school is selecting an architect.
They're hoping the new school will be ready Fall 2014.
