LA CROSSE, Wisconsin (WXOW) - Veteran's Day is Nov. 11, but celebrations began a day earlier at the UW-La Crosse.
The Eagles hosted "Pack the Vet for the Vets," giving veterans and their families free tickets to today's football game.
And two local military men were honored on the field.
Marine Corporal Gauge Griffin, a recent graduate of G-E-T High School, stepped on an IED during routine patrol overseas and suffered a traumatic brain injury.
He is now home, and undergoing rehabilitation therapy.
Also honored was former UW-L football player Jason Church, who received a purple heart after sustaining injuries from a similar IED explosion that resulted in the partial loss of both his legs.
