Originally from Benton, Wis., Jocelyn Lutes is currently a senior at Viterbo University, where she is pursuing a double-major in Biopsychology and Spanish and is employed as a peer mentor for the National Science Foundation CLASS Scholars Program. As the president of the Student Organization Advocating Human Rights (SOAHR) and a member of the Spanish Club, she and other Viterbo students have organized various events to educate the local community about social injustices that are occurring throughout the world and encourage them to take action. In 2012, Jocelyn and other SOAHR officers were asked to present the accomplishments of the club at the La Crosse Latino Collaborative Teaching, Research, and Services Workshop and at the national Association of Franciscan Colleges and Universities (AFCU) Symposium. Following graduation from Viterbo, Jocelyn hopes to further pursue her interest in the human brain by attending graduate school for Neuroscience. She also hopes to use her experiences from SOAHR to continue advocating for human rights and social justice.
