ST. CHARLES, Minn. (FOX 47) -- Fire has caused about $500,000 in damage to a farm near St. Charles.
Bill Dunlay and his wife woke up to the smell of smoke at their farm at 19533 County Road 9 at about 6 a.m. Friday.
Dunlay found an outbuilding and equipment inside were engulfed in flames. Dunlay said he thinks the fire started from a spontaneous combustion in the hay bales. The fire destroyed 600 bushels of corn, a year's worth of hay and a combine.
"There were three tractors and the skid loader -- I got all that out and then the rest was kind of boxed in," said Dunlay. "I couldn't get at it and the truck wouldn't start so I couldn't get that out."
No animals were hurt in the fire.
