City’s Arts Board seeks community input

LA CROSSE, Wisconsin (WXOW) - The La Crosse Arts Board wants the community's ideas about enhancing the arts in the city.

The board is hosting three public forums, asking the community to weigh in on what's working with the La Crosse art scene and what needs improvement.

Suggestions may factor into their strategic plan.

The first forum took place Monday at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse Center for the Arts.

Some community suggestions included better promoting visual artist, creating a common practice venue for local musicians, even creating a database to discuss La Crosse successes in the arts.

"What we find is it's those communities that care most about the arts that have developed arts boards," said Donald Smith, chair of the La Crosse Arts Board. "This is not work for us, it's work for the community. So, the question is, 'What does the community think? How are we doing? What aren't we doing that we could do? What are we doing we could do more of?'"

There two more community forums Thursday:

  • Nov. 15 at 5:15 p.m. at Logan High School (Media Center)
  • Nov. 15 at 7:15 p.m. at City Hall (3rd Floor Conference Room)
