HOLMEN, Wisconsin (WXOW) - "He's a champ. Never give up, no excuses. He's a champion."
Holmen Wrestling coach Jason Lulloff is talking about Ben Fiers. He's a two-time state qualifier seriously injured in a car accident last Christmas Eve. Fiers survived the crash, but some thought he would never be able to walk or talk again, much less wrestle.
But his drive and attitude never wavered in getting back to the wrestling mat. "Since my accident, I knew I was going to come back one way or the other. I didn't care what doctors said."
On Thursday, Fiers was back on the mat in the training room for the team. Since his accident, he's been rehabbing almost non-stop.
The work has paid off with Fiers landing a spot on the junior varsity team. Coach Lulloff says they're not sure when Ben will be able to compete in a match. Fiers is hoping he can return to action in December.
