(WXOW) Four Coulee Region teams picked up early wins on Friday, while a fifth fell short.
The Westby boys lost just five regular season games all of last year. They picked up a big win in their opener against Hillsboro at home. Emmitt Edwards led the Norsemen with 14 points, and Tyler Ihrcke added 13 as Westby won 76-30.
Logan hit the road for a showdown of brand new coaches in Chippewa Falls. The Andy Fernholz led Rangers put up 54 points to 39 from Jason Proue's Cardinals. Jonah Waite led Logan scorers with 16 points. John Rank netted 11.
Viterbo found success on both the men's and women's court Friday night. The V-Hawk men beat Martin Luther College 65-53 in the opener of Viterbo's weekend invitational. The V-Hawk women also opened a weekend tourney with a 91-20 win over North Central College.
UW-L women's basketball fell short in their road trip to Eau Claire. The Eagles took on Simpson College with the Storm coming out on top of a 71-60 final score.
