LA CROSSE, Wis. (WXOW) - Runners at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse promoted health and wellness at the Turkey Trot Saturday.
Twenty-three hundred people participated in the 18th annual 5K walk/run on campus.
It's one of the largest races in the area and organizers said it's continuing to grow.
The Trot promotes an active lifestyle during the holiday season.
"It's just getting people active and I think that's the number one thing," Turkey Trot coordinator Erin Thacker. "Whether they come out to win the race or whether they come out to be social and walk it with their friends, it's all about getting them active."
In addition to family and friends cheering on the runners, a turkey mascot and the UW-L Screaming Eagle joined in with encouragement.
