SPARTA, Wisconsin (WXOW) - Two people are arrested following a car chase in Sparta Sunday morning.

According to Sparta Police Sgt. Booker Ferguson, an officer tried to pull over a car for a driving infraction around 3:30 a.m.  Instead of stopping, the vehicle didn't stop and sped away.

The chase reached speeds of more than 60 mph in the city before the vehicle finally stopped in a parking lot on West Wisconsin Street.  Both the driver and a passenger ran from the car.

The driver, 33-year-old Travis Wehmanen, was caught several blocks away.  He was arrested on outstanding warrants as well as possession of methamphetamine and heroin.  Wehmanen is in the Monroe County Jail awaiting charges.

The passenger, later identified by officers as Mirika Stuhr, 22, got away.  Warrants are out for her arrest.

A third person in the vehicle, 38-year-old Wanda Kessen, was taken into custody on a charge of possession of meth paraphernalia.

A third passenger wasn't identified or caught.
