ONALASKA, Wisconsin (WXOW) - We are entering one of the busiest weeks for travel in the entire year. And making sure your car is ready for travel is one way you can keep your family safe and happy this holiday.
Dahl Automotive in Onalaska said there are simple ways you can prepare your vehicle for the upcoming holiday.
Before a long trip, make sure you are familiar with your vehicle's spare tire, car jack, and have an emergency roadside kit.
You will also want to check your vehicle's fluid levels.
"At the very least, check the oil, check the tread depths," said Travis Rae, Dahl Automotive Service Advisor. "Make sure the tire pressures are set to where they should be. That's really important, especially on a long trip. If for nothing else, for gas mileage."
According to Rae, tires are the most commonly neglected part of pre-trip vehicle preparation.
"A lot of people aren't aware of their tire situation," said Rae "Whether it be something as simple as checking air pressures, especially tread depths. I mean, it's so important and it's something you can feel so easily when you start to loose traction… Good tires are going to make the world of difference getting you to your destination."
Most of the recommended preparation can be done at home with your vehicles user manual. And if you're unsure, any local mechanic should be able to help you out and get you on your way quickly.
