Onalaska, WISCONSIN (WXOW) More evidence that the Coulee Region is loaded with talent college coaches want.
On Monday, three Onalaska High School athletes put their signatures to letters of intent for scholarships.
They are some familiar names.
Matt Thomas, Ben Skogen and Monica Rohe made their college plans official in a ceremony at the school.
Thomas will play basketball at Iowa State after making a verbal commitment last summer.
The highly recruited all-state performer enters his senior season after having led the Hilltoppers to the division 2 state title last spring.
Soon he'll be playing hoops in the Big 12.
"My coaches have prepared me and coached me up well. In the classroom too, Onalaska's a great school academically. I'll be ready for that part of it too at Iowa State," Thomas said.
Ben Skogen is also receiving a division one scholarship.
He'll play golf at the University of Wisconsin.
Skogen won the individual state title as a sophomore and was the MVC Medalist of the Year last spring.
Rohe is headed to Upper Iowa to play golf as well.
She was a first team All-MVC selection this past fall.
Both think their high school experiences have prepared them well for the next level.
"All the golf competitions have prepared me well. State prepared me for college level competition. My teachers have done a very good job of preparing me for schoolwork," said Rohe.
"I had a goal to play D-1 golf and take it to the next level. Wisconsin was the best fit for me. That's why I chose Wisconsin," said Skogen.
