LA CROSSE, Wisconsin (WXOW) – Rod Leis is currently an International Manager of Human Relations for ExxonMobil.
But he grew up on a farm in Cashton.
Leis returned to the Coulee Region Tuesday and spoke to students at Viterbo University.
Leis said his message to students and staff who attended the lecture was a simple one – that coming from humble beginnings should not impede their rise to success.
He now works for the world's largest, publicly traded petroleum and petrochemical company in the world.
"My story focuses on how the walk of life and all the elements of that walk have contributed to my position," Leis said. "I now have the privilege of seeing many countries working together, and cultures across those countries working well together, in a very successful enterprise."
Prior to joining ExxonMobile, Leis served in the U.S. Coast Guard.
