Gov. Walker answers questions about John Doe emails

MADISON (WKOW) -- Governor Scott Walker spent the day before Thanksgiving answering questions about emails released by the Milwaukee County District Attorney's Office as part of its John Doe investigation.

Those emails were first referenced monday in the sentencing of Gov. Walker's former county aide Kelly Rindfleisch, who was found guilty of doing campaign work for Walker and others while working in the Milwaukee County Executive's office.

Gov. Walker talked after a media tour through the numerous Christmas trees and decorations that are up at the executive residence.

The governor dismissed the suggestion by state democrats that the emails somehow show he was at the top of an illegal effort to routinely coordinate activities between his county executive's office and his campaign.

But he admitted that he didn't know the specifics of certain emails which suggested that the county and the campaign staffers were told to have a consistent, streamlined message on certain issues.

"Again, I'd have to review through all those, I haven't gone through the whole case. The last two days I was out hunting, so I haven't... you know I had a couple of questions yesterday, but I haven't gone through all that they presented.  You know, but obviously those are things we'd look at in the past. We have a clear firewall in state government today, in terms of what goes between our official office and the last two campaigns I've had," said the governor.

There has been no suggestion by the Milwaukee County District Attorney's office that those emails show any criminal activity by the governor at all.
