CALEDONIA, Minnesota (WXOW) - There was plenty of reason to be thankful this year for Caledonia Football. On Friday, the Warriors will make their sixth consecutive appearance in the Minnesota State High School League's Prep Bowl Final.
That's where they'll meet Moose Lake/Willow River in a rematch of the 2011 Championship on the Metrodome turf. Last year the Warriors shut out the Rebels 27-0.
This year, both teams boast formidable ground games on offense, so like Caledonia's semifinal win over BOLD High School, this game could very well come down to special teams.
Head Coach Brent Schroeder said, "It's a third of the game. It's just real important to let the kids fly around and be athletes. That's what they do a great job of lately. We're just excited about the enthusiasm they bring to special teams."
"We've got our special teams dialed in as much as our offense, defense," said Caledonia running back Brad Strub. "We spend just about as much time on special teams as we do everything else. You've got to coordinate it all. That's why you see special teams perform like they do every week."
Warriors offensive lineman Jake Dolle added, "Defense wins championships, but special teams does too. They're a big part of our team."
Caledonia and Moose Lake/Willow River kick it off in Minneapolis Friday afternoon at 1:00.
