Caledonia takes third straight 2A title

MINNEAPOLIS, Minnesota  (WXOW) - Levi Schmitz kicked a 24-yard field goal as time expired and Caledonia beat Moose Lake/Willow River 25-22 in the Class 2A championship game Friday at the Prep Bowl. It was their third straight title.

The Warriors (13-0) took over on their own 47 with 3:11 remaining and used seven plays to set up the winning kick.

Moose Lake/Willow River (13-1) was trailing 15-7 at halftime, but used a couple of long plays to climb back and then take a 22-15 lead into the fourth quarter.

Jake Disterhaupt scored on a 71-yard run and Michael Pender added the 2-point conversion to tie the game in the third.  Later in the quarter, Rebels quarterback Tony Adamczak lofted a pass to Isaac Coil, who went 84 yards for a score.

But in the fourth, the Warriors' Alex Varney returned an interception to tie the game 22-22 with 5:45 to play.

Caledonia's defense held the Rebels on their last drive to force a punt that set up the game-winning field goal.
