Racine woman accused of scalding feet of 2-year-old

RACINE, Wisconsin (WXOW) – A 22-year-old Racine woman is charged with physical abuse of a child after police accused her of dunking her 2-year-old's feet into scalding water.

According to a Journal Times of Racine report, Myrna C. Staten was charged on Friday after she was accused of putting her toddler's feet into scalding water because she was frustrated with his toilet-training progress.

Prosecutors said the young boy had second-degree burns on both feet.  According to the criminal complaint, the boy's socks were sticking to his skin, causing blisters on his feet to pop when medical staffers removed the socks.

Prosecutors said Staten gave investigators two explanations for the injuries before acknowledging the placement of the 2-year-old's feet in hot water as a punishment.  Staten expressed frustration over the difficulty in toilet-training him and said he was a "very difficult child."

A message left with Staten's attorney was not immediately returned.
