LA CROSSE, Wisconsin (WXOW) – One person was injured in an apartment fire early Sunday morning.
The La Crosse Fire Department says it was called to a fire alarm at a building located at 333 S. 7th St. just before 3:30 a.m.
Firefighters say they noticed black smoke emanating from a seventh floor window upon arrival, and when they entered the room in question, they found one person inside.
That person was treated for burns and smoke inhalation at a La Crosse hospital.
His or her condition is not known at this time.
The apartment suffered what the department calls moderate fire damage and "heavy" smoke damage, but the fire was extinguished before it spread to other units.
Other residents of the building had to be temporarily evacuated while the fire was being put out.
The La Crosse Fire Department says the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
