SPARTA, Wisconsin (WXOW) - Three accidents send five people to hospitals in Monroe County over the weekend according to the Sheriff's Department.
The first happened late Friday afternoon in the Town of La Grange. A vehicle driven by Jeremiah Poole of North Augusta, South Carolina was traveling east on Highway 21 when he slowed for a vehicle turning in front of him. A pickup truck driven by Jeremy Robbins of Southport, North Carolina was behind Poole's vehicle when he dropped his lighter. After bending over to pick it up, he wasn't able to stop and hit Poole's car. While Robbins wasn't hurt, Poole and two people in his car, Natasha Kennedy of Leesburg, Georgia, and Amber Whited of New Lisbon, were all taken to Tomah Memorial Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Robbins was ticketed for inattentive driving. Poole and Whited received tickets for not wearing seat belts.
On Saturday evening, an ATV driven by Devon Brenson was driving on a trail along Aspen Rd. in the Town of Lincoln when he was blinded by oncoming car lights. He went off the trail and hit a mailbox. He went to Tomah Memorial Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Also on Saturday, a car driven by 17-year-old Charles Frost of rural Sparta was westbound on Aspen Rd. when he hit 29-year-old Gary Lund who was out walking his dog. Frost went to a nearby home to call for help. Lund went to Black River Memorial Hospital for treatment of his injuries.
