Billings to co-chair bipartisan committee

Posted:

LA CROSSE, WISCONSIN (WXOW)— When the next State Assembly session starts up on January, two committees will have bipartisan chairs. It's the first time representatives from both parties will chair a committee together.

The State and Federal Relations committee will be chaired by Republican Rep. Travis Tranel and Democrat Rep. Leon Young.

The Constitution and Ethics committee will be co-chaired by Republican Rep. Chris Kapenga and La Crosse Democrat Rep. Jill Billings.

"For me, I think this is a step in the right direction," said Rep. Jill Billings. "It's an effort to work in a more bipartisan way, to have time to sit down together, with people from both sides of the aisle and talk about how we want to proceed with certain issues. And I think it's a step in the right direction."

The Republicans will control both the Assembly and Senate next session.
