LA CROSSE, Wisconsin (WXOW) - There are no secrets when city rivals meet. That especially the case Friday at Aquinas where the Blugolds hosted Logan.
Rangers first year head coach Andy Fernholz was an assistant coach under Rick Schneider at Aquinas, not to mention he was also a former Blugolds player. Indeed there was plenty of familiarity at the Reinhart Athletics Complex.
And for any Rangers who didn't know the name Nolan Ritter, he made himself very well known scoring 21 points in the game as Aquinas jumped out to a 33-14 lead at the half.
Logan tried to battle back. They started the third quarter on a 9-3 run, thanks in part to a 17 point effort from Preston House. The Rangers continued to fight into the fourth quarter, highlighted by Jonah Waite's 12 points.
Aquinas though, would prove too tough. Bronson Koenig returned to the starting lineup for the Blugolds and scored 20 points. Aquinas went on to win 61-48.
"I was a little more aggressive than last game, not starting last game, just coming in and everything," said Koenig. "I was just trying to distribute the ball. this time I was actually trying to be aggressive, score points and do what my team needed me to do."
The Blugolds improve to 3-1 on the year while Logan falls to 1-2. It was not exactly a welcome return for Coach Fernholz, but after the game he did say it was fun to be back.
