Woman hit by car in La Crosse passes away


LA CROSSE, Wisconsin (WXOW) - The woman who was struck by a car earlier this week has passed away.

Gundersen Lutheran's Trauma Center confirmed that 51-year-old Yvonne Boehme had died from her injuries when she was struck while crossing West Avenue and State Street Monday.

Friends of Yvonne are working on plans and a time for a memorial for her.

The driver of the striking vehicle has not been cited by police.

She is the second homeless person to die in the last two weeks.


LA CROSSE, Wisconsin (WXOW) - We now know the name of the woman hit by a car Monday morning.

La Crosse Police say the woman is 51-year-old Yvonne Boehme.

Officers say Boehme was crossing West Ave. near State Street when she was struck by a vehicle.

Police say a witness stated that the Boehme was not in the crosswalk when crossing West Ave. and was wearing dark clothing.

Officers say the driver has not been cited at this time and the accident continues to be under investigation.   

Boehme remains in the hospital in critical condition.
